Like a butterfly from the chrysalis, Auckland is dragging itself out into the warmer weather and finding it has beautiful wings. Wings straight from New York, no less.
Ok well maybe the metaphor is best used to describe the activities of the town as a whole, but seriously there's a pop up (another one) coming with cool clothes from NY designers and stuff! Hurrah! More here

POP UP –it’s the phrase of the moment, and just like a new phrase, to be enjoyed and then disposed of. If you love a little something short-lived then take note of the following POP UP event showing at High Seas gallery on the 23rd – 28th November.
It’s called ‘Sensitive Boyfriend’ and is the child of a lad we like to call Drus Dryden. Drus being the sensitive type of guy wants to reach out so has got a bunch of his favourite things together to sell and share with you, the children of Auckland.
For 5 days this event will carry on, stocked with fashion and design, but Sensitive Boyfriend has gone beyond the call of duty and planned your social calendar as well. He obviously realizes your time is precious, so here’s just a couple of activities he’s prepared. Monday - running group, Tuesday -massage chain day, break up counselling Friday and Cider day Saturday.
And I haven’t forgotten about the clothes. American Apparel, Nom*D and Lost&Found vintage – amongst other curiosities will be for sale throughout the week

Travel is awesome! What’s more awesome is when friends who’ve visited a place before you email or write down their recommendations of hot spots to check out.
I recently received a mammoth email of close to 100 hotspots to check out in Melbourne. Naturally I didn’t have time to check them all out, not with all my own discovering to do but anyway if you are in Melbourne anytime soon, here’s a couple of my personal fave places to go.
PS… most are in bohemian suburb Fitzroy.
PPS… do not leave checking out galleries for a Monday, like hairdressers- they are closed!
Somebuddy loves you – 193 Smith St, Fitzroy
There’s plenty of good shopping to be done in Melbourne, I particularly liked this shop for their price range and labels. As well as stocking kiwi labels Karen Walker and Deadly Ponies they stock cheaper labels such as Evil Twin. I love a store that appreciates Fashion doesn’t have to cost an arm and your dead aunts gold watch. Also check Sydney label ‘Evil Twin.’

Superette, the store of our fashion desires, has just opened a new store in Ponsonby. Housing all your favourite brands like Stolen Girlfriends Club, American Apparel, Deadly Ponies, Lover and Flux, the store is guarantee to empty your bank account every time you walk through the door. Joining the also new-ish Karen Walker store and that other fancy one on that stretch of the Ponsonby Rd, the store is a welcome addition to our cash-strapped, lust-ridden Sunday morning shop wanderings.
We went in there, right, and the dude wasn't exactly friendly, but maybe staff are still settling in to their new surrounds. In any case, we didn't see any Deadly Ponies, which is what we're coveting atm. Pretty sure they'll be coming in soon though. They have to. Hurrah!

Whenever I see an inspiring illustration or scribbling, be it on a postcard, poster or mag I rip it out and stash it somewhere for when I later need visual delight. These scribblings take pride in my bag, on my dresser, in my drawers, boxes under my bed, my bedside table, maybe on the floor but funny enough never on my wall.
It just seems fitting then that I should want to (and do want) wear imaginative scribblings on a daily basis.
Problem solved.. I’d like to introduce to you Auckland based artist and illustrator Henrietta Harris.
Chances are you’ve seen Henrietta’s work, whether checking humorous Vice party or gig posters around town, shopping at Hip boutique store Tatty’s, or having a coffee with your mum at Robert Harris cafe in Onehunga Mall.
The artist has added one more notch to her belt with a small selection of screen-printed tee shirts, with quirky offbeat subject matter and at a cool $50 bucks you too could be the proud owner of a H. Harris original. My personal favourite is the royal panda..
Check her out at www.scaredycat.co.nz Go on.. do it for New Zealand!

FREE HAMBURGER is a new kind of hi/lo-brow street press for Auckland. Issue #2 has just dropped out there so get your hands on it. Throwshapes caught up with the man behind the freeness for a couple of minutes this week:
Why photography?
I don't really know it just sort works for me. I don't usually try to take photos it kinda just happens.
Could you tell us about your concepts for 'Free Hamburger' and 'Chilli, Beef and Cheese' how did the idea come about to produce these publications?
The concepts behind Chilli be was just a insight into artist studios, bedroom and work spaces.
Free Hamburger is created by artists for the benefit of art and the street level consumer of art and fashion. It is committed to providing fresh and creative ideas, and exceptional content that is easily accessible to anyone and everyone.
The important focus of Free Hamburger is to reconstruct high level interpretations of fashion and art and release it at street level for no cost, and ultimately become a force for making creativity, art, and fashion more diegestible and relevant to the masses.
