See-Saw 3.0, the third instalment of the new monthly artists program at Cassette 9, brings you fresh collaborative mural, painterly and print work from renowned aerosol artists 2tone and Peap Tarr. The soundtrack for the opening reception will be provided by selectors Scratch 22 and Jelly Fish who has recently returned from a stint in Melbourne.
Works will be available for sale for the duration of the exhibition from the opening on Wednesday 02.12.09 at 6pm. This is may be your last chance to see Peap’s wall styles before he leaves us to reside in Thailand.
2tone has been painting with aerosol for over 10 years, though he works in several other mediums including digital and ink. His style is usually linear, use of both vibrant and muted colours with hard black line. He also uses alternative illustrative techniques and painting methods not usually adopted by graffiti artists. 2tone has ventured and painted in several countries including England, Australia and Turkey in recent years. He has also had several shows in New Zealand and Australia with most notably the 'Nightbreed,' show last year in Auckland with Peap.'

POP UP –it’s the phrase of the moment, and just like a new phrase, to be enjoyed and then disposed of. If you love a little something short-lived then take note of the following POP UP event showing at High Seas gallery on the 23rd – 28th November.
It’s called ‘Sensitive Boyfriend’ and is the child of a lad we like to call Drus Dryden. Drus being the sensitive type of guy wants to reach out so has got a bunch of his favourite things together to sell and share with you, the children of Auckland.
For 5 days this event will carry on, stocked with fashion and design, but Sensitive Boyfriend has gone beyond the call of duty and planned your social calendar as well. He obviously realizes your time is precious, so here’s just a couple of activities he’s prepared. Monday - running group, Tuesday -massage chain day, break up counselling Friday and Cider day Saturday.
And I haven’t forgotten about the clothes. American Apparel, Nom*D and Lost&Found vintage – amongst other curiosities will be for sale throughout the week

Happy mayhem is the simplest way to describe last nights opening on the AUT campus and offsite. Complete with a crowd in the hundreds, DJ Ben Tankard (a Yam Jams representative) and enough work to make your brain squeak, the night was a pleasure as much as it was a success.
Before making it down to the main campus we followed a crew on home built bikes into the off-site postgraduate exhibition upstairs from Gordon Harris in Gallery 3.
Inside, a fluorescent green circular painting loomed over two multimedia projections like an electric moon...

Walking down K-road yesterday and poking our noses into various galleries and tings, we came across a peculiar sight: an empty shop fitted out like a laboratory, with two people inside dressed in white lab coats. I grabbed my camera out of my bag to take some snaps when the man and woman beckoned us to come in. Inside the clean white space were test tubes and assorted instruments of science (don’t ask me what they’re called), and a collection of coloured water in numbered bottles on the wall. We were asked to participate in an experiment, and I was handed a remote control with six buttons, told to push one and a smell would come from one of six fans in the wall. The scientist-looking dude gave me a card to write down what colour I thought each smell represented, by choosing one of the coloured bottles on the wall. It felt a bit like being in a version of Willy Wonka’s factory, and when I pushed the first button, a strong smelling peppermint filled the air.
