Shayne Carter is sexy. He just is. Shayne Carter and his guitar and the love he makes to his music – sexy.
Supporting Dimmer on Saturday nights show at Auckland’s Bacco Room is Dimmer guitarist and current boy-wonder James Duncan, performing songs from highly acclaimed debut album Hello-Fi,. Flanked by a stunning line-up comprising Finn Andrews (The Veils), Chelsea Metcalf (Teacups), and Sean Donnelly & Chris O’Connor (SJD), Duncan played an electric half-hour set to a mesmerised crowd.
Dimmer then provides their eager fans with a full, solid performance, playing for just shy of an hour and a half. Tonight is the final show of their short nationwide tour promoting recently released album, ‘Degrees of Existence’, and the crowd (which I suspect contains a healthy quotient of die-hard Straitjacket Fits fans) are soon getting a hot lean on. Carter even surprises us by inviting boisterous young act Bandicoot to the stage for an impromptu cameo. Highlights include the albums title track, and a cover of The Gordons ‘The Machine Song’.
It’s the drone-y, bass-y, but ethereal instrumentals that top for me though, from both acts. Mighty fine.
